Inside the Tribe with Tonyell: Where Does the Carnival Begin?

Greetings Tribe 💛✨

Every movement has a beginning.

Not the day the business was registered.

Not the day the website went live.

Not even the day the first event was held.

The real beginning is the moment an idea becomes a story people want to carry forward.

That’s where we are today.

Today isn’t just another Monday inside the Tribe.

It’s the beginning of something entirely new.

Today we’re launching the first chapter of our first Tribe Literary Universe

For months, you’ve travelled with me through tours, events, conversations and community.

Now, I’m inviting you into something even deeper.

A story.

Because stories have always been how villages remember who they are.

And if we’re building a Global Village together, then our story deserves to be told.

A New Chapter for Tribe of Travelers

From today, Every month, Tribe of Travelers will introduce a new Literary Universe.

One story.

One shared journey.

One theme that shapes everything we do.

The articles.

The tours.

Friendly Fridays.

The conversations.

The destinations we explore.

Even the communities we build.

Instead of simply reading updates, you’ll be stepping into a living story that unfolds throughout the month.

July’s story is called When the Village Dances

It follows six strangers whose lives become connected through culture, belonging, and the search for home.

But before you meet them…

I want to tell you why I had to write this story in the first place.

Every Journey Begins Somewhere

People often ask me where Tribe of Travelers began.

Some think it started in Leicester.

Others think it began when I moved to Kenya.

The truth is…

It started before there was a business. Long before there were tours, Friendly Fridays or a Tribe Room.

It started with curiosity.

I grew up in Corona, Queens, New York - one of the most diverse neighbourhoods in the world.

Everywhere I looked, I saw people carrying pieces of somewhere else.

Jamaica.

Nigeria.

Colombia.

Guyana.

China.

The Dominican Republic.

Growing up there taught me something that has never left me.

The world is far bigger than the place we happen to be born.

That curiosity eventually became a passport.

And that passport changed my life.

Learning to Build

Years later my career took me to Atlanta.

That chapter wasn't glamorous. It was about discipline, hard work, and learning how to build something from absolutely nothing.

It was there that the first spark of what would eventually become Tribe of Travelers appeared.

Back then it wasn't called Tribe of Travelers.

It was called SASA Inc. - Sisters Assisting Sisters Abroad.

Looking back now, I can see that even then I wasn't simply organising travel.

I was trying to create connection.

I just didn't realise it yet.

Kenya Changed Everything

After the pandemic, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life.

I packed everything up and moved to Kenya. I hoped my sons would reconnect with their heritage.

Life had other plans.

Eventually they returned to the United States while I stayed. It was one of the hardest seasons of my life. But it was also one of the most transformative.

Kenya reminded me that travel isn't simply about seeing new places. Sometimes travel helps us discover parts of ourselves we didn't realise were waiting to be found.

For me, Kenya became a place of healing, reflection and purpose. It reminded me why exploring the world matters.

Especially for people whose histories have often been shaped by movement, migration and resilience.

Why England?

People ask me that all the time. The answer surprises them.

One day I read that British people were among the world's most travelled people.

Something inside me simply said...

"Go."

I didn't arrive with investors.

I didn't arrive with a team.

I arrived with suitcases, a laptop, and an idea I couldn't ignore.

Starting over wasn't easy.

There were days I questioned everything.

But slowly, something beautiful happened. The right people started appearing.

Volunteering at the African Caribbean Centre reminded me what genuine community feels like. People welcomed me before they really knew me. That feeling stayed with me.

It became part of the foundation of Tribe of Travelers.

The Part Most People Never See

People often see the photographs.

The trips.

The events.

The laughter.

The beautifully designed website.

The growing community.

What they don't see are the thousands of hours behind them.

The destination research.

The hotel comparisons.

The route planning.

The endless editing.

The website redesigns.

Learning digital marketing from scratch. Teaching myself systems I never imagined I'd need.

Writing articles after midnight. Designing while everyone else is asleep.

Building this movement has never been easy.

There were moments I wondered whether anyone would understand the vision.

Then another member joined.

Another conversation happened.

Another event reminded me why I started.

And I kept going.

Why This Story Matters

When the Village Dances isn't just a novel. It's a reflection of everything I've learned about travel, identity, belonging and community.

The characters may be fictional.

The emotions are not.

The questions are not.

The search for home is not.

The hope is not.

Every month we'll explore those ideas together through stories, editorials, conversations and real experiences across the UK.

Because I don't want Tribe of Travelers to simply organise trips.

I want us to build a community that travels with purpose.

Before You Leave…

Chapter One of When the Village Dances is now available to read in The Library

It is our gift to everyone who wants to discover the heart of the Global Village.

Chapter One is the only chapter that will be available to the public.

The rest of the journey continues inside the private Reading Room, where Tribe Members receive each new chapter as it is released throughout July.

Because every village has a gathering place.

The Library is where stories begin. The Reading Room is where members continue the journey.

And every story deserves readers who stay for the whole journey.

If Chapter One leaves you wanting more, I'd love for you to join us inside the Reading Room and continue the journey.

Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or you’ve only just found us…

Welcome.

The village is waking.

The rhythm is rising.

And our story is only just beginning.

With love,

Tonyell 💛✨
