Inside the Tribe with Tonyell: Welcome Back to the Village

Greetings Tribe 💛✨  

Welcome back.

Every new book feels a little like opening the front door after returning from a journey.

The Village has been waiting for you.

The conversations are still here.

The people you've travelled with haven't disappeared.

They're simply waiting to welcome you back.

But something has changed.

When we first began this journey together, we were asking a simple question.

Can belonging be created one conversation at a time? 

Over the past few months we've explored expression, memory, celebration, hospitality and friendship. Piece by piece, we watched the Global Village take shape - not because someone designed it perfectly, but because ordinary people chose to keep showing up for one another.

That was the heart of When the Village Dances.

Now we're ready for something different.

The Journey Continues

Book Two begins with a question that has been quietly waiting for us all along.

What happens once the Village begins reaching beyond the place where it was born?

Building a community is one thing.

Carrying it somewhere else is another entirely.

Because every town already has its own stories.

Every neighbourhood already has its own traditions.

Every community already has its own heartbeat.

The challenge isn't teaching people how to become us.

It's learning how to honour who they already are.

That's the journey we're beginning together.

Meeting Maya Again

This week Maya quietly steps into the spotlight.

If you've spent time around the Village before, you'll already know her as someone who notices things other people walk past.

She sees possibility before most people even realise it's there.

This time, however, the journey isn't taking her somewhere unfamiliar.

It's taking her back to the place she once called home.

I'm going to leave the rest for Chapter One.

I think you'll enjoy discovering why Birmingham isn't simply another destination.

It's a place that's been waiting for Maya just as much as she's been avoiding it.

Around the Village

One of my favourite parts of writing this series isn't finishing the stories.

It's watching the characters slowly become familiar.

The day you recognise Kai before he speaks.

The day Maya walks into a room and you already know what she'll notice.

The day Tonya quietly says something that stays with you long after you've finished reading.

For some reason I still think Tonya might become everyone's favourite.

(I promise I won’t be jealous. 😂)

That's when I know the Village has started doing what I always hoped it would.

Not becoming a collection of stories.

Becoming somewhere you enjoy coming back to.

Looking Ahead

This week we'll begin Book Two together.

We'll meet Maya again.

We'll return to Birmingham.

We'll discover that carrying culture isn't about recreating one community somewhere else.

It's about helping every community discover the strength that's already within it.

As always, we'll also spend the week gathering around the Village through our conversations, articles and shared experiences before coming together again at Friendly Fridays at the end of the month. 

Our Featured Tour this week takes us to London, another city where countless communities have learned how to carry pieces of home while creating something entirely their own.
