My name is Zaire, and I am the Soundscape Director in Global Village Stories.

I spend my days listening for the sounds that tell us who we are - the songs, conversations, celebrations, and quiet moments that become part of a community's memory.

This week, I've been thinking about something every community eventually faces.

How do we honour where we come from… while making space for where we are going?

Every culture begins with a story.

A song passed down.A recipe shared around a table.A celebration that brings people home.

A tradition that reminds someone where they came from.

But every generation eventually faces the same question.

What happens when the people carrying that story begin to change?

Does culture remain the same forever...

Or does it survive because people are brave enough to add something new?

The Story Behind This Week’s Chapter

Chapter Four of When the Village Dances explores a question I believe every community eventually faces:

Who carries culture forward?

For me, the answer has never been only about remembering where we came from. It is also about deciding what we carry forward.

Culture survives because people today choose to participate.

They choose to share.

They choose to welcome.

They choose to carry something meaningful into the future.

Culture does not belong only to the people who created it.

It belongs to everyone who chooses to honour it.

Every person who shares a story.

Every person who welcomes someone new.

Every person who participates instead of simply watching.

They become part of the next chapter.

Because we don't inherit culture just to protect it.

We inherit it so we can continue the story.

Building the Global Village Together

This is the kind of community I believe the Global Village is becoming.

A community where people don't simply observe culture.

They participate in it.

Friendly Fridays are not about recreating one perfect version of community.

They are about creating new memories together.

Every conversation.

Every introduction.

Every shared meal.

Every new friendship.

Adds another thread to the story.

The Global Village will never be finished.

Because culture does not survive because we stand still.

It survives because we keep the rhythm moving.

Until the next rhythm finds us…

Keep the story alive.

Keep the culture moving.

Respect always,

 Zaire 🪘🔥🌍
