Most people think an Open Mic Night begins with a microphone.

It doesn't.

It begins with silence.

The kind of silence that lives inside someone who's wondering...

"Will anyone listen?"

After years of watching communities grow, I've learned something.

Every village carries voices that have never been heard.

Stories that have never been told.

Songs that have never been sung.

Sometimes all people need...

is a room that says,

"Your voice belongs here."

That's how every great story begins.

Every Voice Carries A Rhythm

Chapter Three of When the Village Carries Home reminded me of something I've always believed.

Before Maya accepted the invitation...

before anyone knew what would happen next...

there was a rhythm beneath the surface.

Not music.

Not words.

A feeling.

A community trying to remember something about itself.

That's what Open Mic Night has always represented for me.

Not a performance.

A conversation.

Every person who steps forward changes the rhythm of the room.

Some tell stories.

Some sing.

Some share poetry.

Some simply speak from the heart.

Every voice becomes part of something larger than itself.

That's how culture keeps moving.

Every Person Adds Something

One of my favourite things about Friendly Fridays is watching the room slowly find its rhythm.

At first, people arrive in small groups.

Some know each other.

Some don't know anyone at all.

Then somebody shares a poem.

Someone else sings.

Another person tells a story that reminds everyone of home.

Before long...

strangers are applauding one another.

Conversations continue long after the performances end.

Nobody plans it.

It simply happens because people choose to listen.

That's what community sounds like.
